Nawaz is an independent sessions drummer originally belonging from Guwahati, Assam and has been based out of Mumbai for more than a decade. Coming out of a non-musical background and discovering his affinity towards rhythm in his early years, Nawaz started going live locally at 13. He has been associated with many bands from Assam, primarily with the heavy metal act “Rectified Spirit” and “Silver Tears”.
Silver Tears is one of the best active progressive acts of our country that have inspired hundreds of young guns to take up music seriously in and around Assam.
Having started his Bollywood Career in Mumbai, Nawaz didn’t let a single opportunity slip by and has been working with Aditya Narayan, Rahul Vaidya, Shruti Pathak, Shefali Alvares, Atif Aslam, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Meiyang Chang, Thomson Andrews, Keshia Braganza and many more. He has also been working alongside our very own Assamese artists Joi Barua, and Nilotpal Bora.
In 2019, Kalyan Baruah, a celebrated guitarist of our country witnessed Nawaz playing at Prag Cine Awards. Impressed by his performance Kalyan Baruah offered him the opportunity of playing with KK. Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, the renowned Indian playback singer.
Of late, Nawaz has also been doing a lot of sessions/recordings for singles, albums, films and OTT platforms; some of which are already out and some are yet to be released.
His recent work happens to be an elemental part of first Axomiya progressive metal song “KUKUHA” which is an outright hit produced by Anurag Saikia. He has also been associated with MTV Unwind playing with Sonu Nigam. Another song Nawaz laid his coveted drums on that blew the minds of listeners with its 5-count progression is “KASIYOLI” ; an Axomiya song by Anurag Saikia which was featured in Salim Sulaiman's project BHOOMI.
BHOOMI is a musical movement by Salim Sulaiman, who has brought together some of India's finest artists across regions.
Nawaz had first seen Akashdeep perform with his band 'Casino Blues' in Guwahati in 2007 and since then he had always looked up to him as a senior musician and an elderly brother ever since and looked forward for an opportunity to working together, so when the idea of Jaivik Swar came up he couldn't resist, Akashdeep and Nawaz had previously worked together on many occasions and have also done an instrumental track together called 'Weekly Once' from where their journey of musical collaboration started.
Lastly, it would be a bummer to stress on how rich and magical this union is going to be. Jaivik Swar is an ambitious project of four multifaceted musicians- Amarabha on vocals, Amborish on guitars, Akashdeep on bass and Nawaz on drums.
They have the unquestionable desire to create new sounds that would reach every corner of this country. They sincerely hope that this band can connect to the very souls of its listeners and beyond.
